„Transport Logistic” fair held in Munich, 12-15 May 2009
On 12-15 of May, 2009 took place “Transport Logistic” Fair in Munich which is the biggest international meeting of transport, logistics and telematics representatives. We were among the 47.500 participants coming from 50 countries.
Despite the current recession influencing the sector’s representatives we have observed positive signals sent by the industry. The logistic companies take challenges and invest in promotion in order to be perceived in the recession period as a solid and reliable company and a business partner. Also, we cannot forget about these companies, which currently struggle for survival.
According to the German report „Logistik inside”, which has been published in May 2009, it is expected that in the current year in the German market, 20 to 30% of the companies are going to declare bankruptcy. Especially the smaller enterprises which are focusing on transport without value-added services might face difficulties. Also, the global recession has a negative impact on the container, air and inland transport. All that leads to a cost economy and a need of an effective sale and marketing forms establishment, such as the participation in the prestigious Transport Logistics Fair.
It is not without a reason that the fair are being held every 2 years in Germany, as this country is considered as the biggest transport market in Europe and a headquarter of numerous market leading companies. It is Munich which attracts the attention of the managers and the owners of the companies from all over the world. Among countries from which arrived the highest number of participants, Poland has been ranked on the 7th position (according to the report “Messe Muenchen”) and the highest positions have been occupied by Austria and the Netherlands.

Thanks to numerous conferences and discussion forums the industry decision makers got to know more about the challenges and chances within the sector TSL, e.g. what are the current trends in the sea and air transport. It is always interesting to observe how the exhibitors attract the visitors attention and how the talks at the fair stands are being held. We have highly appreciated these companies, which have actively searched for the contact with the visitors.
Also, we have noticed that some of the few exhibitors perceive the fair as an occasion to meet their own managers, who have selectively approached the visitors in line with a principle of „talking just with the clients”. Every logistic company should be focused on a client as we are of an opinion that every dialog is valuable and helps to find new perspectives and contacts, especially potential partners, such as clients and subcontractors. In the recession times such “global logistic events” have a positive impact on the sale effectiveness in the TSL sector.
We will remember the fair’s professional organisation and infrastructure, interesting conversations and contacts in Munich, May 2009. We would like to wish the fair organizers a successful fair continuation and “see you again Muenchen” in 2011.

Intercollegiate Youth Logistics Forum - 19-20.03.09, Poznan
During the "Inter-4. Logistics Youth Forum" held in Poznan on 19-20.03.09, Krzysztof Szakowski gave a paper on the impacts of the current economic situation on the labor and TSL market "Economic Crisis - what's next with the logistics and the labor market?".
"Communication and negotiating skills, and ability to take over the responsibility of looking at the logistics of the eyes of the customer are the necessary abilities for career in logistics. Students and managers to-be should pay attention to the "soft skills" that are responding to new challenges of the Polish labor market" - was one of the conclusions.
It has also been demonstrated that companies investing in improving its competitiveness in an era of crisis, can go to the position of leaders.
The conference was attended by more than 100 students from the logistics associations and numerous representatives of Polish companies which has allowed an interesting dialogue about the theory and practice of logistics.
